On the Road to Success with Our Shoebox Appeal 2022

2022 has been a long and difficult year for most and we at Children in Distress have also felt the strain. We have lost friends, supporters, family members and some of CID’s heroes, one of whom was our dear friend Graham Sloan.

Graham, who worked for Amey , would help us annually with our shoe box collections in Glasgow and on our long journey to deliver them to Northallerton for their final destination to vulnerable families in Romania.

This year however we connected with old friends, and made some new ones, who helped support us with our journey.

We were joined by Ross and Lewis Sloan, Graham’s sons, who decided they were going to step up and help fulfil their father’s legacy and complete the delivery their father would have done.

Amey PLC, our long-time supporter, and friend supported Grahams wishes by again donating a large van and diesel, and another Amey employee Stuart Henderson stepped in to complete the journey in his memory.

Ross’s employer at DMI Fire & Security likewise provided a company van, covered the price of the diesel for the journey, all free of charge.

As we had an enormous number of shoeboxes this year, we were very grateful for the use of both vans.

Thanks to these three wonderful new supporters of our Charity, we can safely say that although 2022 had many bumps in the road for us all, we managed to end the year in so much joy, knowing that we will be able to help so many children and families in Romania have a wonderful Christmas.

We would like to once again, extend our thanks to Amey PLC and our new friends DMI Fire & Security.
