Celebrating 35 Years of Children in Distress
It’s time for our Annual Thanksgiving service and we are delighted to invite everyone to a very special occasion in York! This year marks the 35th anniversary of Children in Distress, and we warmly welcome all friends and supporters to join us for a Thanksgiving Service on Saturday, 9th November 2024 at 2pm at St. Thomas’ Church, Lowther Street, York, YO31 7ND.
This year’s service holds special significance as it will be hosted in the church where two of our founding members, the Reverend Dr. John Walmsley and Eddie Errington, first met prior to the charity’s establishment. We are honoured to have the current vicar Reverend Al Rycroft graciously lead the service.
The service will be a time for us to give thanks for the children in our care, acknowledge the generosity of our supporters and celebrate the dedication of our volunteers and staff who have helped us throughout the years in both the UK and Romania. It is also a moment to reflect on our shared journey over the past thirty-five years.
Refreshments will be served in the church hall following the service, offering an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and meet new ones. The church provides accessible facilities, including a ramped entrance, an accessible toilet and a hearing loop. While parking is limited, there are car parks nearby, and the church is just a short walk from York City Centre and the Railway Station.
For those unable to attend in person, a livestream will be made available. More details will be shared closer to the date.
