Trip Review: Romania Visit 17-20th December 2024
By Simon Errington, CEO
From December 17th to 20th, I had the profound privilege of visiting Romania to deliver shoebox gifts to the local children. Our journey took us to various community spaces, schools and churches, where local community leaders and priests provide vital support to children and their families. These spaces are more than just venues; they are safe havens where children can develop and parents can learn and grow.
In Bucharest, our collaboration with social services, support workers and dedicated volunteers allows us to reach children who need love and support the most. The impact of our efforts is truly visible in their smiles and gratitude, reinforcing the importance of our mission. Each shoebox delivered brings hope and a sense of belonging to these vulnerable children.
A significant portion of our work is carried out in the beautiful towns of Curtea de Argeș and Corbeni, located on the edge of Transylvania at the foothills of Moldoveanu Peak. This region, southeast of Brasov and home to the famous Bran Castle, offers a picturesque yet challenging environment where families struggle with daily necessities.
At a school outside the main town, we had the joy of distributing shoeboxes to 90 children. The school is a place of love and support, where children receive care and education. One poignant moment during my visit was when the CEO of the Foundation shared a touching story of a 6-year-old boy who eagerly awaited Father Christmas, hoping to receive a toothbrush and toothpaste in his gift box. His excitement over such basic essentials was both heartwarming and humbling, serving as a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
Our visit also took us to a vibrant project in Urlaţi, located three hours northeast of Bucharest. This community hub is a place where children can receive academic support, learn new skills and most importantly play and have fun. The energy and enthusiasm in this space were truly inspiring and it was wonderful to see how our efforts are making a tangible difference in their lives.
Throughout this visit, I was continually reminded of the generosity and kindness of our supporters. Your contributions allow us to bring joy and essential items to children who need them most. The images from our visit capture the happiness and gratitude of the children who received these shoeboxes and I encourage you to continue supporting our mission.
Thank you for your unwavering support and belief in our cause.
