Children in Distress 35th Anniversary Celebration Tour in Romania
In late September, supporters of Children in Distress gathered for a memorable five-day tour through Romania marking the organisation’s 35th anniversary. The tour included visits to key sites in Bucharest, Zarnesti, Sinaia and Brasov, blending impactful experiences with Romania’s rich history and culture.
The events began in Bucharest on 25th September with attendees convening for an informal dinner to bond and prepare for the week ahead. On September 26th, the group visited Casa Maria, the children's home in Bucharest, where supporters engaged with both staff and the children whose lives have been transformed by the charity’s efforts. That evening, Bragadiru Palace hosted the Charity Heroes Gala Dinner, a glamorous and emotional event honouring supporters, staff and volunteers. The organisation’s patron, HRH Princess Maria of Romania, attended as a distinguished guest, offering inspiring remarks and personally connecting with guests throughout the evening.
The tour continued in Sinaia on 27th September, where participants explored the enchanting Peles Castle in the Carpathian Mountains before heading to Zarnesti, where they visited the land purchased for the upcoming PineView Retreat Lodge project dedicated to enhancing support for local communities. The day concluded with dinner in Brasov, giving the guests the chance to experience the city’s medieval charm and unique architecture.
The weekend events included a Thanksgiving Service at the Church of the Resurrection in Bucharest and a second gathering with the children at Casa Maria followed by a final farewell dinner. The closing day, 29th September, allowed attendees to enjoy Bucharest one last time before heading home.
This tour reinforced the incredible impact of Children in Distress and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Photos from the Gala dinner and other heartfelt moments can be viewed on our Gallery.
