A Heartfelt Thanksgiving Service for Children in Distress
On Saturday, 9th November 2024, Children in Distress marked its 35th anniversary with an inspiring Thanksgiving service at St. Thomas’ Church in York. Friends, supporters and team members gathered in person and via live stream to celebrate this significant milestone and the achievements of the past year.
The service was a moving tribute to the charity’s enduring mission, filled with moments of reflection, gratitude and hope. Among the highlights was a special address by HRH Princess Maria of Romania, delivered via video link.
Attendees were also inspired by speeches from the Children in Distress team, who shared updates on the remarkable work accomplished this year. Reverend Al Rycroft, vicar of St. Thomas’ Church, led the congregation in a thoughtful and uplifting service, creating a profound sense of community and purpose.
This year’s Thanksgiving service was particularly meaningful as it took place in the church where two of the charity’s founding members, the Reverend Dr. John Walmsley and Eddie Errington, first met—a poignant reminder of how far the organisation has come.
For those unable to attend, the service can still be viewed on St. Thomas’ Church’s YouTube channel: Watch Here
Following the service, attendees enjoyed refreshments in the church hall, where connections were strengthened and new friendships were formed.
As Children in Distress reflects on 35 years of compassionate care, the charity is excited to continue its journey with the support of its dedicated community. To learn more about how you can be part of this vital work, visit our website or reach out to a member of our team.
