Wishing Mădălina a speedy recovery!

Madalina building up her strength before her operation

Mădălina is one of the youngest of CID’s little family resident in St Andrew’s and she is a recipient of a range of tailored rehabilitation & care services. A couple of days ago, Madalina underwent complex major heart surgery, which took place at Marie Curie Hospital in Bucharest.

At birth, Mădălina was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, a congenital heart malformation. This surgical intervention was scheduled some time ago but the cardiologists were monitoring her for some much-needed weight gain before proceeding. Madalina had failed to thrive and her weight and measurements are below what is considered normal for her age and developmental.

Last October, she was admitted to the Marie Curie Hospital, where the medical team performed a thorough assessment followed up by a series of blood tests over the last few months. Her recent surgery was extremely complicated, with several life-threatening risks, particularly so, given her low weight, which caused continuing concern despite all the efforts of the care team at St Andrew’s.

Her surgical team included Romanian and foreign specialists and thankfully the operation was considered a success despite the considered risks. At present, Mădălina is in Intensive Care, while an entire team of specialists monitor her status to make sure she makes a steady recovery. Her St Andrew’s care team miss her dearly and all pray and hope that she will be well enough to return to them soon. Fingers crossed, everyone at CID wish her a speedy recovery and are intent on always being  there for her.
