Introducing Children in Distress’s 2016 Marathon Champion -Anna Crosland

“I am a maths lecturer at Middlesbrough College working with teenagers that have missed out in school or are trying to improve their grades after a bad experience in the education system. My husband David and I met 18 years ago and we have been married for 11. David and his brother operate the family run Lion Inn at Blakey Ridge (which the Guardian says is the best pub on the North York Moors).  It is a stunning warm and welcoming 16th century inn with breath-taking views across the Rosedale and Farndale valleys.

We live in Kirkbymoorside and have two children, Shannon 15 and Kieran 10. The kids and I are very active and they want to know all about my training schedule. Working full time means that I have to be very strict in keeping to the training schedule I have set up. I will average between 30-40 miles and carry out two core strengthening sessions a week. One of the runs will be a long run of anything between 14- 22 miles. I usually do that early on Saturday morning, so that it doesn’t interfere with quality family time. The other miles are covered by interval or hill training. I like to train on a night, straight after work, before starting on my planning for the following teaching day, as I find it helps me focus. I am very keen on being a good role model for my children and the young people that I teach and believe that a healthy active lifestyle does just that.

In this challenge I would welcome sponsorship support from family and friends and from the Children in Distress’s wider family of care.  If they could all donate as little as that ‘pound in their pocket or purse’ that would be champion! I have set up a ‘Just Giving’ Marathon Sponsorship Account or they can donate via the CID ‘Just Giving’ website portal at”
