Top StoryKeyworth Show’s Tombola Triumph![]() Happy helpers photographed include Jane Hunt. Margaret Eggleston, Trev Griffiths, Charlotte and Paul Withnall with Woody , Trish &Geoff Witcomb and their grand children Thomas, Millie, Jessica & Sophie. Sadly, Pat Payne and Diane Martin missed this photo call. It’s almost a family tradition and this year three generations of the Witcomb family helped set up and serve at the Keyworth Show’s “Children in Distress” Tombola. For thirteen years, rain or shine, there has been a tombola stall and this year a wonderful band of volunteers armed with six hundred individually donated prizes have made this year’s fundraiser possible. Last year despite the threat of being rained out the team did spectacularly well, but this year, basking in glorious sunshine and despite suffering near heat exhaustion they sold every ticket and raised a staggering £842. Geoff Witcomb hopes that with the help of his employer, Pearson Driving Assessments and their Employee Matched Charity Funding Scheme, the grand total will increase to nearer £1300.
Geoff asked specifically that both Vision and the Website record “Our sincere thanks to all those who supported the Tombola, who offered cash donations or generously donated the six hundred prizes, everyone who helped sort them, transport them and who helped setup the stall and sell tombola tickets. Your kindness, generosity and support for our work and the children in the charity’s hospices, children’s centres and projects is very much appreciated. We also would specifically to extend our thanks to those hardworking unsung heroes, the organisers of the Keyworth Show itself.”
An additional unexpected bonus of the Keyworth Show is that the organisers of the Knitting Section of the Craft and Horticulture Show selected Children in Distress as the beneficiary of their Children’s Knitted Jumpers Competition. The exquisite knits are being showcased presently, in the local High street Haberdasher’s display window but will be donated , packed and shipped to clothe and warm infants and children in the charity’s’ projects once the display is over. ![]() |
