Hungerford Big Wheel July 2012

Crossing the finish line

Robin and Anna Dunn are an inspirational couple, who have supported the work of Children in Distress for twenty years or more, as volunteer medics helping improve the quality of care in our hospices and children projects. In the UK, they, their family and friends have made a unique and significant contribution to our work as the driving force behind The Hungerford Big Wheel, the charity’s only cycle event. For fifteen years regardless of the weather, in blazing sunshine and through rain and storms Robin and Anna have marshalled help and overseen one of the most enjoyable cycle events in the country. This year, Robin modestly reported to Vision

“Some of our riders have come on every ride we have organised and we have a very faithful clientele, with a high percentage of “returnees” from a very wide area.  Considering the appalling weather this year we were lucky and only had the odd shower – ideal cycling weather.

As ever, Robin is profoundly grateful to the committee who help organise the ride and this year especially to the many friends and helpers who volunteered as marshals and as helpers on the common and in the forest. “We simply couldn’t run the event without their unstinting help. Sadly, we were disappointed earlier this year to hear that for ‘health and safety reasons’ the local Air Cadets Corp, who have been such a wonderful help for many years would  for the first time be unable to help this year.”

“We banked nearly £1500 pounds profit on the day and the sponsorship money is still coming into say nothing about the potential Gift Aid”.

This is another sterling contribution, from this wonderful couple and their friends. Both Robin and Anna are active in their support of charity having helped set up Noreen's Kids, another charity caring for children in Romania and Robin helps with the Jumbulances which take those in need on pilgrimages to Lourdes
