CID’s good fortune when Ely Community College became an Academy

Roger wating to load only some of the boxes included in the shipment

Recently, three good hearted supporters, Suzette Hannigan and Terry & Roger Germany, from Sutton in the Isle, helped ship two transit loads of donated hand knits and new clothing  to the children and teenagers in orphanages, children’s placement centres and the poorest families in Romania, supported by Children in Distress.

This wonderful team of local ambassadors, also took advantage of a very generous offer from the staff and students of the award winning Ely Community College, which has recently been granted academy status. The College had boxes of new logoed sweatshirts and shirts that although surplus to the Academy’s requirements will be just ideal for the poorest hard-pressed families seeking outfits for the return to school later in the autumn. Although the logos may be outdated in the UK, they will add a certain international cache to school wear at the start of the autumn term in Romania

Ely's twenty or so boxes joined a further one hundred and fifty plus boxes stuffed with donations, which were shipped in the first week in July and have already arrived in CID’s donations warehouse from which they will be distributed over the next few weeks. This international shipment was co-ordinated by Alexandra Matei on behalf of Alison Hayes.com, which generously sponsored the shipment.

Thanks go to all the volunteer knitters involved and everyone at Ely College, our team of local ambassadors, CID’s volunteer logistic and warehouse team in the UK, Preston’s of Potto for their generous provision of temporary warehouse space and Alison Hayes.com for their help and support in shipment co-ordinating the pickup and delivery.
