A reunion with tears, hugs and renewed promises bode well for Elizeo

Elizeo with his Father

This week, Elizeo had a pleasant surprise when his Dad visited him. It has been a long time since the two of them had spent quality time together. Elizeo joined the St Andrew’s family some years ago  and for most of that time  his sole visitor, has been his Gran. Gran likes to see him once a month and if she cannot make it, she usually calls to ask about his wellbeing. She usually spends a couple of hours talking about her grandson with the medical staff or social workers, as she likes to know how she can help or contribute.

This was Elizeo’s Dad second visit, the care team are extremely happy, and proud to see them bond again. Mr. Stancu made the most of his visit and brought Elizeo some useful gifts and he talked with the nurses about Elizeo’s treatment and current needs. Sadly, they couldn’t really talk together but sometimes, all you need is a warm hug and eye-to-eye contact to acknowledge the presence of a loved one.

Elizeo is one of the residents, who make the most of life despite complex health problems and severe developmental and cognitive delay; he has been diagnosed with ECI, spastic quadriplegia and he is fed by nasal-gastric tube. St Andrew’s talented physiotherapy team use various techniques to help relax Elizeo’s rigid upper and lower limbs and torso easing his aches and inducing a more relaxed state of mind. His named nurses and carers work around the clock to address his care needs, especially as young Elizeo requires constant vital signs monitoring and help with most daily activities.

The care team look forward to Elizeo and his Dad bonding through several planned visits over the next few months. Having a strong and healthy relationship with close relatives makes it easier to care for their patient as close physical contact, soothing words, hugs and kisses create a healthy environment where the children can thrive and reach full potential.
