Nicolae B. finds a home at St Laurence

Nicu at home in the Casa Catherine's garden

Nicu B, aged 14 years old, is the latest addition to the extended family of care at St Laurence. He was transferred from Gulliver Centre in Sibiu to his new home in Casa Catherine. He is a sociable young man, so he immediately made friends with his fellow residents.

St Laurence’s social work team have him enrolled in the “A second chance” educational programme in the school in Medgidia, the same school where another two school-age residents attend classes. Weekend classes help them complete and catch up with peers who regularly attended school and they are accompanied and supervised by a social parent on their train journey back and forth.. Nicolae has embraced his new timetable and likes going to school, having new colleagues and interesting teachers. Waking up at 6:00 AM and taking the train to Castelu train stops is quite difficult for this group of students but no matter the challenges, they are determined to graduate and get their diplomas. Nicolae wants to buy a car, when he comes of age and next, to pursue his dream of becoming a professional driver. We all hope that he will achieve his dream, and we will continue to support and encourage him so that his dreams will eventually come true.
