A winter’s tale with a happy end, St. Christopher’s - Curtea de Arges

Alexandra, her sister and brother were thrilled with their new warm winter clothes

Alexandra, Miruna and Felix are brother and sisters, who live together with their Mum in a humble one-room home. Here they sleep, eat, do their homework and spend free time huddled together during the cold winter months. Because their Mum was not fortunate enough to complete her education, she can barely find a decent job and from time to time, she cannot afford to buy the basics of life let along all the things the kids might need. Winter arrived with vengeance this year and the only heating in their small room is the stove. The children usually keep warm by huddling up together wearing layers of wearing ill-fitting hand me downs that usually don’t fit.

Santa was told of the children’s situation and decided, in true St Nicolas fashion, to bring some joy into their lives. The children were taken shopping to choose warm and comfortable clothes for school, nightclothes and jumpers and things to keep them warm indoors. The kids were so shy and overwhelmed by the entire experience that they couldn’t believe their eyes that this “fairy tale” was truly happening to them. They could barely point at the shoes or clothes they preferred, and everything seemed a bit overwhelming. Felix was not even familiar with the term “true to size” so Santa’s little helpers had to show him what it meant to feel comfortable in a shirt that fitted. Buying shoes was quite an adventure but in the end, they all went home wearing new warm winter boots. Back home, it was a delight to see such happy and grateful children trying on their new clothes to proudly show their Mom how dapper they looked. To this little family, everything seemed like a dream come true, a fantastic experience they thought could never happen.

The St Cristofer’s team and everyone at CID, feel incredibly blessed and proud to be able to make deserving wee souls happy, to support their dreams, to help them complete  their education by providing a few of the basics things that some people simply take for granted. Alexandra, Miruna and Felix are just and example as there are many, many more on the local community just like them. Working together, we can change lives by doing simple things that mean the world. All the very best for the New Year to everyone may it bring you and yours health wealth and happiness
