Knitting - a Passion, a Pastime or an Indulgent Hobby?

Whatever You Decide, Let Children in Eastern Europe benefit and Become Part of our Knitting Network

The Charity's March transport of donated goods almost swelled to overflowing when the charity received an enormous donation of beautifully hand knitted good from the lovely ladies of the Ely Knitters Group.

Inspired by what she heard at a Fund-a Physio for Children in Distress talk, Suzette Hannagan was inspired to get knitting,

Suzette said, "I have enjoyed knitting from childhood and on hearing that CID welcomed knitted clothes I have been able to indulge my hobby and help others at the same time, which adds greatly to the enjoyment.

"I belong to a Needlework Group and some of the ladies have joined in and I've been put in touch with other friends and relatives who enjoy knitting. Non-knitting friends have supplied the yarn and the circle is widening all the time. I'm amazed how large the supply of garments and knee rugs has been and are handed over to Children in Distress on a regular basis.

We have a system and include jumpers and cardigans, hats, mittens, scarves and knee rugs for the wheelchair bound. All are of a practical design for children aged between 2-8 years of age."

I Did It.  Why Don't You?

As Suzette says "Everyone involved in their production gains personally from the knowledge that this knitting is desperately needed and will make an enormous difference to lives infinitely less for fortunate than ours."

Ayr Churches Women's Guilds Already Have Their Own Network

Alisdair Barron, the charity's CEO, returned recently for a talk to the ladies of the Castlehill Parish Church Women's Guild at Ayr with his car packed with bags of the most exquisitely knitted baby clothes and knits to keep children of all ages warm this autumn.

All ready for shipment these knits are earmarked for Buzau County where the families are the poorest any of the Children in Distress staff have ever seen. The families were included in the 2008 Shoebox project and for many of the children their Christmas Shoebox was the first Christmas gift they had ever received.
