Training to cope in the event of Fire and Earthquake

Fireman at the hospice gate

Last Thursday, 16th November a fire prevention and security training exercise was mounted at St Margaret's Hospice, in Bucharest. The drill was organised by a consultancy company providing specialised insight and practical training in fire, health and safety and involved their active and effective involvement throughout. A team of the ISU Bucharest-Ilfov Emergency Situations fire brigade Inspectorate, which deals with emergency call outs for St Margaret’s, were also present and participated in the exercise programme. This was designed to offer practical insight and training to both teach and prepare the staff working in the hospice setting how to deal in the vent of emergencies and how to act in the event of a fire.

In addition to their fire prevention and safety exercise, the staff picked up new and equally vital information on how to act when safely evacuating the children in the event of a fire. The ISU intervention team monitored this event and reinforced with the centre care team their understanding of how to act in the event of any emergency. This daylong training exercise was part of an extensive training programme designed for staff working in CiD’s residential hospices and addresses all of the potential issues, which might be encountered in emergencies, such as fire or earthquakes. It is intended to prepare the staff to act promptly to save and protect the children and themselves if ever called to do so.
