Princess Maria of Romania visits St Margaret’s

Princess Maria with little Laurentiu

Darius shares “we are pleased to have a “real” Royal Princess as our guest”

Her Royal Highness Princess Maria of Romania, recently visited St Margaret’s Hospice in Bucharest overstaying her planned visit to chat with the medical and children. Having studied and worked in child care for many years whilst living in the United States, Her Royal Highness was exceptionally interested in the health of the children she met, and clearly had been well briefed on all of the projects and programmes delivered by Children in Distress and its sister foundations across Romania

The CID Ro Foundation has clearly consolidated its position as one of the leading care providers in the field of assistance and protection of the child, which it promotes and ensures through intensive work with abandoned children, those from the most disadvantaged families or those living in the direst poverty. It continues to pioneer advocacy and access for infants and children with disabilities, and through an intensive multidisciplinary approach to family welfare, the rehabilitation of school refusers through innovative education provision and tutoring; it works to reintegration to education, for those at risk of absenteeism, school refusal or drop out.

Executive Director, Valentina Zaharia, escorted Princess Maria throughout and introduced her to each of the children and in doing so talked of St Laurence, Cernavoda and the origins of the original project and work with infants with HIV and AIDS, which started the CID’s mission to Romania. The Princess expressed her wish to visit Cernavoda in the near future.

Before leaving as a memento of her visit Princess Maria inscribed the visitor’s book, sharing her thanks for the visit and her pride in the work carried at St Margaret’s.
