It is never too soon to learn

Claudia  masters  the machine

Although Claudia seems still to be enjoying this year’s long and blisteringly hot summer holiday, she has lots of entertaining and interesting diversions planned and on a daily basis and she still has a few more up her sleeve.  One of the Saint Andrew’s  care team recently decided to offer Claudia a couple of dress-making and tailoring lessons to introduce her to the  exciting new world of hand crafts, where she can astound everyone  by creating her own clothes designs, make them, and wear them with pride.

Claudia soon became excited as she often does with a new activity, but it was clear that she really enjoyed her first few clothes-making lessons. She subsequently confided that she would really like to spend her free time creating new designs and using the electric sewing machine kindly brought in to St Andrews by a member of staff. Claudia was quite surprised, when she was told that she could attend her first amateur tailoring class. Audacious as ever, although not familiar at all with a sewing machine and its components, she listened carefully to her teacher and started to understand how it worked and how to use it to sew materials and add impressive little finishing touches, with hems and tucks. After everything was thoroughly explained, then repeated and at last thoroughly understood, Claudia had the opportunity for her first real practice runs, and she went on to create a cloche skirt for one of her favourite dolls. She now understands how to measure and cut the material for a skirt. In no time, having got to work, they had their hands an absolutely amazing creation, that Claudia promptly put on her favourite doll. Young Claudia and her mentor were very proud of the final product and Claudia is already looking forward to her next lesson and to creating and making many more clothes for her doll. Actually, it seems that an entire wardrobe collection is planned and so everyone hopes that they will see the end of it. The care team  are proud of Claudia and of her steps to mastering  an exciting, beautiful and useful craft skill and who knows, perhaps the future will surprise everyone and we will have new designer in the making But until then, Claudia still hasn’t figured out who will she  dress next ?!?!
