Another 'new girl on the block'

Smiles all round as Cristina settles in to her new home

Despite living through some of the hottest hazy, crazy days of summer, they can remember, the team at St Margaret’s Hospice as thrilled to announce that yet another little girl has joined their Centre is little family. Cristiana Mitu is just three years and eight months old; she was born on November 26, 2013). She is an adorable, little, blue eyed, blond haired beauty, who is an extremely inquisitive ’little wonder’. She has fast become the highlight of each day and the apple of many eyes, always keen to interact with those around her, always ready to explore and learn new things, ever ready to surprise with her beautiful smile and attractive personality.

Diagnosed at birth with Down’s syndrome, Cristiana was promptly abandoned by her mother, who already had three other children to feed and clothe. Given the family were already living in poverty, she decided she could  take on neither the huge costs nor the enormous responsibility of Cristina’s upbringing and made the unenviable decision to give her daughter up for care, by a centre specializing in the care of those with special needs. Cristiana’s little life so far, has revolved around numerous admissions to hospitals and some very short periods in which she had the chance to interact with the other children living out their lives in the last centre in which she lived.  Now, she has been entrusted to the very capable hands of the team of carers and social workers at Saint Margaret’s.

Therefore, her life is on the up and has taken a distinct turn for the better. She is now going an integration period, and everyone is positive she will settle and fit right in with her new happy little family. So far everyone at Saint Margaret’s has welcomed Cristiana with open arms, especially the children who are eager and curios to play with the “our new girl”, as she is now fondly called.
