CPD Event for Saint Andrew’s team of Therapists


Ready to learn ti better help their patients. 

In working with children with disabilities days can be  filled with highs and lows, sometimes filled with unexpected satisfactions and less often by daunting challenges. Everything changes around children and you must keep up with them. Every child has an individual personality, and needs a specifically tailored intervention plan. This is always seen a must in the first step towards rehabilitation, usually accompanied by specific techniques and exercises tailored to their needs. Which is why, whenever possible, a workshop or course that delves into or analyses how to perfect a therapists  work style, or  offers insight to new techniques is always welcomed and mandatory for Saint Andrew’s team of therapists .

This week, the centre’s speech and occupational therapists participated in a county wide one-day seminar entitled “Creativity in speech and language therapy” which focused the practical side rather than touching on the theoretical aspects of this vast field of activity. After a brief introduction, which included presentations of all types of language disorders, the specialists discussed ways of improving therapy sessions with children. The fact that specialists must be creative and challenge children all the time is a key element, which leads to a successful outcome. New games were presented and methodologies, which can be used to adapt already used games giving them a fresh approach.

It was an interesting day and a wonderful opportunity for all specialists to exchange opinions and experiences, to meet new colleagues employed elsewhere, to identify new techniques necessary to constantly stimulate the children and making progress no matter the diagnosis or case. Saint Andrew’s therapy team   look forward to future workshops and seminars dedicated to continuous learning and perfecting their professional skills in order to reach proposed targets and child centred goals
